Riyadh: Sameera Aziz is nominated for the best Saudi female journalist and media person award in “Women Leaders in Saudi Arabia & Awards 2014″ taking place soon first time in Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh.
Women leaders & Awards in Saudi Arabia is first of its kind in Saudi Arabia. The summit is to felicitate the Women Leaders of Saudi Arabia and encourage maximum women participation in all developmental projects in Saudi Arabia. It is an enlightening session that offers training program, networking platform and thus bring women leaders into spotlight in the global market. It is an effort to provide contentious support and guidance to the women of Saudi Arabia, giving them global platform and helping them emerging as leaders.
Women leaders in Saudi Arabia have made their remarkable influence in the society. Breaking all social dogmas they are now into business, academics, sports, law, accounts and in many such fields, writing their success story in golden words. Because of cumulative acceptance of women in education and various field of employment in Saudi Arabia, the last few years witnessed an increased participation of women in senior level executive positions and decision making positions in both public and private sectors.
Sameera Aziz is one of the remarkable women leaders in Saudi Arabia. She is a famous Saudi media personality. She is a Journalist, film maker, director, script writer, radio presenter, novelist, speaker, social worker and activist. She is a Jeddah-based Saudi national. She is most notable as a radio presenter of her weekly show ‘Marhaba with Sameera Aziz’ in Asian Radio Live, which is based in the United Kingdom. She is also the Country Head of ‘South Asian Regional Information Agency’ (SARIA), an international news agency with voice of SAARC countries.
Sameera Aziz is also an owner of the production house ‘Sana Solkar production’ in Bollywood which is the first Saudi production house in India. She is recognized as a first Saudi female Bollywood director and writer. She is a director, producer and writer of a Bollywood movie REEM, the first Saudi-Indo venture in Bollywood. Her target of making this film is to promote Saudi tourism and to present a modern and educated Saudi youth as well as to show the cotemporary Saudi lifestyle to the world, contrary to the idea that ‘Saudis are the camel riders.’ She has been involved in film making in Saudi Arabia on women issues as an assistant director and production team member.
Sameera Aziz is also recognized as the first Saudi novelist of Urdu language in Saudi Arabia. She is active in humanitarian work. She has written thousands of articles and fictions in politics, social and woman issues. She conducted undercover sting operations – the rare genre in Saudi journalism – and became the part of bold experiments in the new progressive Saudi Journalism. Her reporting experiences include coverage of terrorism, women’s rights and the societal changes now taking place in Saudi Arabia. In 2009, she shocked everyone when she boldly wrote and spoke about an evil incidence of child abuse that she witnessed and protected the child after an encounter. She also campaigned against the gang who brought Afghani origin children to Saudi Arabia with the fake Pakistani passport to make them the beggars, towel and chewing gum sellers in the streets of Jeddah. She was threatened by the criminal group of people during this campaign. She spoke about the ill-treatment and crimes of domestic workers in Saudi Arabia and condemned their propaganda that was being carried out against many guiltless Saudi employers.
She is a speaker regarding international, social, expatriate, animal, and women’s issues. She aims to give positive message through her media activities and to bridge the gap between the Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world.
She also acts as a consultant to various international organizations for social development and human rights like ‘We The Youth’ and ‘Society For International Peace’ which is a think tank initiated to serve the humanity. She is also a business woman. She is married with two children. She speaks and understands some three languages like Arabic, English and Urdu. She was born on June 24, 1979 in Al-Khober, Saudi Arabia. Her parents first migrated to Pakistan from India, and then to Saudi Arabia, and later still to the United States of America. Her multi-cultural background and innovative work in Journalism and media made her popular among masses.
Sameera Aziz has won many awards earlier as well like The woman of today, humanity award, pride of the nation, first Urdu novelist in Saudi Arabia, youth ambassador, Best Ind-o-Pak Friendship Icon award etc.
